When in Rome ...

Leslie and I have been busting our butts the last few months. We both work full-time jobs and often have side projects that take up our “free time”. Let’s not forget all the mandatory things that need to be taken care off to keep our lives running. With all this work and stress building up, it’s always important to release the pressures of life when you are able to.

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

Rest is a vital to the mind and body and if neglected, you can lose sight of what you are striving. We both have experienced this first-hand multiple times in the past and we have learned from our mistakes. We decided to treat ourselves to a short mini-vacation this past weekend at Vegas. I think it was exactly what we needed, although I think we would both agree that we could use an extra day or two.

One thing that interests me is how others people handle themselves when on vacation. Vegas isn't really known as the health capital of the world. It seems like every street corner has an advertisement for a discount buffet, the best steak in town, pastries from the world’s top chefs or unlimited sushi for only $9.99. I am of the mindset of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” I’m not giving myself a free pass to eat everything in sight, however, I’m also not going deny myself from indulging in the things that Vegas has to offer.

This is always a go-to place when in Vegas. Check out Luv-It Frozen Custard between the Stratosphere and Old-Town Vegas. They have different flavors everyday.

Vacation = R&R + Carefree – (Restrictions)^Self-Control

This was a new place we tried called Hash House. It's Zagat rated one of the best places to go. I thought it was ok and I'd give it a try again. That Watermelon-Kiwi Lemonade in the picture above  is pretty good though.

Being somewhat of a math nerd, I thought of this little equation. Vacation equals Rest & Relaxation with an addition of a Carefree spirit while loosening up the Restrictions of your daily life but only to the power of your Self-Control.

Leslie and I had a great time sleeping in, eating various deserts that we normally stay away from and even enjoying a seafood buffet for dinner. We even hit up a little outlet shopping and found some great deals. We don’t regret anything we did and can’t wait till our next vacation wherever that may be.

Upon our return, it was back to business. I had to get my weekend workout in before the day was done. I’m about 4 weeks into my powerlifting program and I've seen great progress. My weight still fluctuates like crazy but I know it’s on a steady decline. Although this weekend didn't help my weight loss too much, I’m ok with that and willing to take responsibility. It’s worth it after all. What good is this life if you can’t enjoy the good things it has to offer?

Our last day before the long drive home. Had to stop at the California Hotel in Old-Town and get some Hawaiian food. It's pretty  much tradition at this point.

The portions were fairly large which means left-overs for lunch the next day!
